New figures issued by the Investment Property Databank (IPD) suggest that, despite falling farm incomes, tenanted farmland is now the top performing investment in the UK. IPD research found that the annual return on let land during 2000 was 8%. This compares with a 6% drop in the value of UK equities. However, as very little tenanted land comes onto the market, investment opportunities in this area are limited. Graph.
