Animal health (amendment) bill - 2001 - DEFRA News Release (201) 31 October 2001, (2) .

Government has published a bill designed to ensure that any new cases of foot and mouth disease are dealt with effectively, and that action can be taken to eradicate scrapie from the national sheep flock. Among its provisions, the bill provides powers to slaughter any animal where it is felt necessary to prevent the spread of the disease.
