Looks at current practices used to complete a transaction including the written signature, and outlines the defects with the process. Provides a definition of a digital signature and explains the use of encryption technology which should make the signed document more secure and easier to detect fraud. Concludes that a fundamental problem is that anyone can pretend to be you by intercepting your document, reapplying their own digital signature and passing on their own public key to the recipient . Includes a timetable for launching the Land Registry Act.
