The antiques and fine art trade have been warned by government to beware of agencies attempting to cash in on the 1998 Data Protection Act at dealers' expense. Companies are offering to complete the act of registering with government for a cost beyond the original fee of £35 and are also contacting businesses that have no obligation to register under the act.
