Government plans to protect uncultivated and semi-natural land could have the opposite effect claim critics such as the Country Land and Business Association. They claim that DEFRA's new rules which will name which land is due to be covered by the regulations could include land in long-term set aside or an agri-envronmental scheme. This could lead to farmers not going into the schemes in the future as they cannot remove themselves from them.
