Research by US Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that construction safety as measured by the rate of workplace injuries and illness in the private sector is improving but it is still among the most dangerous. In 2000, the injuries and illnesses reported was 5.7m the same number as the year before but the hours worked had increased by 2%.
