Since the Civil Procedure Rules it has become increasingly common to appoint a single joint expert (SJE) to a case. Offers some practical steps that demonstrate instructing a SJE can be carried out efficiently. Advice includes establishing the credentials of the proposed SJE, being involved in preparing a SJE's instructions; remembering precedents for additional further experts; investing time in drafting written questions, and considering appointing a shadow expert as an adviser.
