Nine new regional venture capital funds for the UK regions were launched on 29 January 2002. The projects, pioneered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, are the result of £225m of joint funding from the Department of Trade and Industry, Barclays Bank and the European Investment Bank. Companies eligible for finance are likely to receive sums between £70 000 and £250 000 as part of government's attempt to fill the equity gap for small companies.
