Examines the problems funds are facing in the light of the recession and terrorist attacks in New York: companies are also looking to clear property assets from their balance sheets through outsourcing while public property companies are looking to go private. Funds are finding it increasingly difficult to meet the asking prices for big investment deals.The problem is in the low rates of rental growth, causing investment companies to miss their target returns; a price correction or a fall in interest rates is required to widen the available opportunities. Investment companies are faced with the choice of either returning investors' money or extending the investment period.
