Outlines measures landlords can adopt to avoid giving security of tenure inadvertently while negotiating new or extended leases, protection an occupier can acquire under Pt II Landlord and Tenant Act 1954. Cites several cases including recent "Cricket Ltd v Shaftesbury plc" , where a term of less than six months was granted, to avoid protection. Amendments to th Act are currently being considered, which may remove some of these difficulties.
