The DTLR's proposals to reform the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 have been welcomed, although some respondents have expressed concern over security of tenure and other general issues. Article considers the following key issues giving the DTLR's original proposals, revised proposals and author's comment: contracting out; terms of renewal; ownership and control of a business; termination and time limits; notices for requesting information; renewal procedures; and interim rent. The DTLR plans to use the Regulatory Reform Act 2001 to reform the 1954 Act and reforms could be in force by the spring of 2003.
