In the budget the chancellor announced measures to tackle avoidance of stamp duty on commercial property transactions and a modernisation of stamp duty on land and buildings in the UK. The Finance Bill 2002 will include legislation to discourage a range of techniques used to avoid stamp duty on high-value property deals.
