More rural spend, less aid, says EU

At an informal farm council in Murcia, 30 April 2002, EU farm ministers decided to support the EC's decision to cut agricultural aid in favour of increased spending on rural development. It is hoped that this would encourage voluntary modulation. Rural development accounts for only 10% of the E44bn (£27bn) common agricultural policy.
