Aims to dispel some of the myths surrounding the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to solid waste management and then to describe some of the advantages associated with this approach. Currently there seems to be a degree of cynicism amongst some waste management decision-makers regarding LCA tools. This is probably due to a combination of incomplete understanding of the LCA approach and a degree of technophobia. Describes the basic concept of LCA and the most commonly used terminology.
