For faster deals, get personal - 2002 - Estates Gazette (0218) 4 May 2002, 143(1) .

Argues for conveyancers to challenge local authority practice to use postal searches which earn them revenue rather than using personal searches when requesting information on property for a client. Legislation allows a lawyer to use personal representation to search the local authority registers in order to relive pressure on lawyers to speed things up but in return the local authorities have restricted access to the registers. The Law Society has failed to support its members in improving personal access but the local authorities do need to improve their customer service.
