Ministers have confirmed that 55% of land in England will be designated as a Nitrate Vulnerable Zone (NVZ) under new legislation due by the end of 2002. The National Farmers Union (NFU) and Country Land and Business Association (CLA) expressed relief that NVZ coverage wasn't higher, although the restrictions on farmers could still cost the industry up to £50m a year. http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2002/020627b.htm
