Discusses the RAC Foundation report, 'Motoring Towards 2050: An Independent Inquiry'. Criticises the reports preoccupation with the inevitability of more car traffic growth; with a rise of nearly 50% predicted by 2031. Also argues against the report's insistence that a sustained programme of road building is crucial to stop congestion and damage to the environment. Indeed the report's claims that zero emission vehicles can appear on the market and totally replace the internal combustion engine is open to dobut as the energy needed to extract the hydrogen cannot necessarily come from renewable sources or nuclear power.
