Despite problems at home with its parent company Fast Retailing, Uniqlo the Japanese retailer is planning to open 50 stores in Britain in the south east, Midlands and north west in the next three years. Although the UK subsidiery was receiving a £20m funding package the experience of Marks & Spencer in Europe should alert them to what happens to foreign outlets when the going gets tough.
