The European Union is studying whether a US decision to increase farmers' subsidies breaks US obligations under global trade rules. World Trade ministers had agreed to negotiate the reduction and eventual phasing out of export subsidies and 'trade-distorting domestic support.' US farmers will receive about $190bn (E188.6bn) in subsidies and protection for 10 years.
