£1bn required for new towns
£1bn required for new towns
- 2002
- Urban Environment Today 3(153) 8 August 2002, 3(1) .
MPs on the Transport, Local Government and the Regions committee have urged £1bn worth of funding for the essential redevlopment of new towns. A major programme is needed as the towns were all developed between 1946 and 1992 and need their layout renewed and their housing and infrastructure improved. Neighbourhood regeneration funds have helped in some areas but there are still pockets of severe deprivation alongside areas of prosperity.
