Explains the Construction Industry Council's system for appraising all aspects of a building. Hodder Associates' Darlaston swimming pool is used as a case study in assessing the design quality indicator (DQI). DQI complements the Movement for Innovation (M4I) key performance indicators (KPIs) but, unlike KPIs which appraise the construction process, DQIs appraise the product using three categories - functionality, build quality and impact.
