European committees have been set up to harmonise standards for construction materials and products, under the jurisdiction of CEN with products satisfying the standards being awarded an E mark . The current 30,000 standards for building materials and products are to be reduced to about 100 key standards. The new Eurostandards should come into effect from 1992 and manufacturers will have six months to make their products comply.
