The latest Office of National Statistics (ONS) figues show a strong recovery in manufacturing output in July. A rise of 4.9% recorded the largest monthly increase since February 1979. The rise comes after the 5.5% downturn in June caused by the Jubilee celebrations' effect on work patterns. However output fell by 10% on a three monthly basis and 2.6% against July 2001.
