The Building Research Establishment (BRE) and Suffolk Housing Society have been researching the use of the hemp plant as a sustainable building material. A study into the material found that hemp homes equalled the performance of traditional homes in thermal retention, durability, permeability and waste minimisation, although costing 10% more to build.
