The Landfill (England and Wales) Regulations 2002 implements the EC Directive on the Landfill of Waste. This article gives an overview of the new landfill legislative regime. Discusses that operators of existing landfill sites must decide whether they wish to continue to operate after 16 July 2002 and the subsequent procedures. Sets out the appropriate steps for applications for new landfill sites made after 16 July 2001 but before 16 July 2002.
