Examines the case for sustainable development in the context of a report published by the British Council for Offices, "Sustainability starts in the boardroom", which presents the latest picture of the property industry's attitude towards sustainable, energy-effiecient development. The latest Building Regulations (Part L) are making high demands on developers to rethink energy consumption in buildings but the government is also giving encouragement in the form of tax breaks. Argues there is a growing acceptance amongst companies that something needs to be done about the issue and indeed the majority of respondents to the report say they undertake some sort of energy consumption monitoring.
