The recent case "R v London Rent Assessment Committee, ex parte Lester" [2002] 46 EG 199 (CS) confirms that under assured tenancies, proposed rent increases by landlords automatically take effect unless the tenant refers the matter to a rent assessment committee (RAC), and the RAC receives the reference within the time limit.
