The survey of the fourth quarter, 2002 puts the rubber stamp on the anecdotal evidence around at the moment that the shortage of skilled labour has recently become much more acute. Behind the shortage of plumbers, bricklayers, plasterers and carpenters though, is the story of the continuing success of the UK construction industry, which has outperformed every other sector for some time. Construction wages are also rising faster than other sectors.
