The latest "Quarterly briefing of maintenance costs" (available as a subscription service from Building Maintenance Information) shows that over the last 12 months costs for repairs and maintenance work for private householders has increased by 15%. This increase is far higher than that in the private sector and is attributed to the shortage of skilled tradesmen in such areas as carpentry and plumbing.
