EU reveals package for enlargement and agriculture

The European Council (EC) and ten of the candidate countries have agreed a 'fair and tailor-made package which benefits farmers in the accession countries'. This decision means that Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia can join the EU on 1 May 2004: farmers in these countries will have immediate and full access to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
