Design does impact on the value of housing schemes to developers according to new research "The value of housing design and layout"published by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE). The report sets out a methodology which shows how different types of housing layout and design impact on development costs, the value of the end-product and the final profitability to the developer. Any preconception that higher density decreases value per square foot was not borne out.
