Breaches of enforcement notices in Northern Ireland will incur the toughest fines in the UK. Measures in the Planning (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 2003, now laid at Westminster, are aimed at strengthening and improving the planning system in the province. Fines of up to £30 000 for unauthorised demolition or development and spot listing of at risk buildings will be introduced amongst other new powers.
