Using the experience of a farmer who has diversified from farming, describes the Scottish Executive's Farm Business Development Scheme. The aim of the scheme is to 'provide financial support to farming families to create new income-generating opportunities, or to expand or improve existing diversified activities either within or outwith agriculture.' The fact that it is open to immediate family members and not just individuals or businesses makes the scheme different from other similar schemes. Explains the process of applying for a grant from the scheme and the type of activities the scheme supports.
