Stamp duty exemption approved - 2003 - European Commission Press Release 21 January 2003, (2) .

UK plans to exempt non-residential property transactions in disadvantaged areas from stamp duty have been given European Commission approval. Changes are expected to take effect at the beginning of the next financial year. It will mean the removal of the levy in the UK's 2 000 enterprise zones and is intended to encourage investment in the UK's most deprived areas.
