The ODPM's housing investment data for 2002 reveal an overall drop of around 3% in the number of empty homes in England over the year 2001-2002, reaching 5% in London. Northeast England shows a slight rise. Total empty homes homes in 2002 was 729 770 down on 2001 with 753 188.
