The European Parliament and the Council of Ministers have agreed a compromise in the draft Directive to protect workers exposed to the risk of asbestos. This will result in the idea for a compulsory register of buildings containing asbestos being dropped. The compromise will mean that the proposal can be adopted soon and implemented quickly. Member states will have to transpose the terms of the Directive into national legislation within three years.
