New energy directive places property sector under pressure

Now that the EU Directive on energy performance of buildings is formally part of European law, it will have an effect on surveyors' work as it influences property values and building design, renovation and investment. Covering existing buildings as well as new construction, the law requires buildings to be certified for energy efficiency with regular inspections of air conditioning and heating systems by January 2006.
