Restoration of historic buildings can boost urban renewal as exemplified by a scheme in Liverpool restoring derelict and ruined buildings into a new mixed-use development called Ropeworks. This was a public/private sector partnership funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund's Townscape Heritage Initiative. The benefits of such schemes were highlighted at the Urban Summit where English Heritage launched its "Heritage dividend 2002" report.
