Tender prices significantly outstrip inflation

The Building Cost Information Service's (BCIS) latest tender price index and forecast to first quarter 2005 shows that new construction work prices are continuing to outstrip inflation significantly with tender prices rising in the year to the fourth quarter 2002 by 9% compared with 2.7% general inflation. Tender prices rose also by 1.6% between the third and fourth quarters 2002. BCIS forecasts that new work output should continue to expand in 2003 rising well above the long term trend rate. In 2004, growth in new work output is likely to be above trend, albeit closer to it.
