Country Land & Business Association warns that rural tourism is hampered by the interpretation and operation of planning rules. Argues that planning rules are often over restrictive in many areas such as roadside advertisements. Local planning authorities are encouraged to apply flexibility to applications for converting barns and to the use of standard highway criteria. Refers to an ICM poll on the publics attitude to the countryside which shows that 85% would support a scheme that gives incentives to visitors to the countryside to spend their money on local goods and services.
