Reports on a recent Planning Inspectorate decision which overturned a Milton Keynes BC decision to refuse planning permission for a Lloyds TSB bank to carry out works to improve access for disabled people. The work was to be carried out on a historic Grade II listed building and involved the construction of a ramp. MKBC refused planning permission on the grounds that it would fail to preserve the nature of the building and diminish pavement width. Planning Inspectorate agreed with the bank that an alternative suggestion of a ramp in a side alley would be too gloomy and cramped. The bank has now sought permission to construct the approved ramp on the footway, but MKBC has indicated it will oppose the application.
