A series of five articles focusing on urban design in suburbia. The overriding theme is whether suburbs can overcome prejudice to reflect good urban design and their own identity. Looks at the processes and issues surrounding suburban environments and considers how the principles of the Urban Task Force report can be applied to developments in suburban locations. Describes initiatives to improve suburban neighbourhoods in Northern Ohio and discusses experiences of urbanism in the Netherlands and Australia. Concludes by outlining the approach taken to create a real neighbourhood in Newhall, Harlow. References, figures and diagrams.
