Impact of commercial leases code surveyed
Impact of commercial leases code surveyed
- 2003
- RICS Research 8 April 2003 (2) Property Week 68(14) 11 April 2003, 8(1) .
Chartered surveyors in England and Wales have responded to a follow-up questionnaire on the impact of the new commercial leases code of practice. The majority of surveyors are bringing the code to the attention of prospective tenants and landlords, less than half to existing tenants. The prevalence of upward-only rent reviews has been scarcely affected by the code and only 20% of new tenants and tenants renewing leases have sought greater flexibility. A third of surveyors agreed that landlords were willing to offer more flexible terms following the code. A further survey by the British Property Federation (BPF) of nearly 800 leases signed since the introduction of the code shows occupiers sticking overwhelmingly with upward-only leases. http://www.rics.org/RICSWEB/getpage.aspx?p=pBxGivUS1kiQqlEeLAEkkA
