In the wake of Sir Donald Curry's report on "The future of farming and food", rural professionals and their clients need to examine the challenges that face them and what opportunites are available. The first part identifies what problems rural professionals facein getting projects off the ground and goes on to identify what opportunities exist under land-based schemes such as Countryside Stewardship Scheme and Woodland Grant Scheme and also project-based schemes that are focused on individual developments rather than areas of land. The second article examines the problems caused by the planning system and what effect it has on rural surveyors and their clients.
