Use data to build better buildings

Bruhns, H.

Use data to build better buildings - 2003 - Estates Gazette (0313) 29 March 2003, 101(1) .

Suggests that achieving a sustainable built environment requires the development of an information infrastructure that contains statistical data on the UK's built stock. Gives the example of a university research team who developed a GIS database to provide wall-to-floor ratios for buildings of different types and sizes. This was then used for an energy model of England and Wales. Concludes that this kind of information base is of great value to the property industry and that the industry should therefore back similar research.
