New financial regulations mean banks will have to take a more detailed analysis of their property risks. The new rules may make banks more cautious in lending to commercial property as there will be changes to the way property assets are risk-weighted. The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has released its latest consultative report on the New Basel Capital Accord which will form the framework of banking supervision from 2006.
