Research by CACI for the Greater London Authority predicts consumer expenditure to rocket by 2016, an increase of £35 billion from 2001 after stripping out the impact of inflation. The increase is partly explained by a forecast of 700 000 extra residents over the 15- year period with the inner boroughs having the highest projected population. London has missed out on the current retail development cycle but there are a number of massive schemes in the pipeline.
