Discusses quantum meruit cases which have taken up a great deal of court time over recent years. Refers in particular to "A L Barnes Ltd v Time Talk (UK) Ltd" ([2003] EWCA Civ 402; [2003] BLR 331-339(9) where the latter was content to engage a shopfitting contractor to work on particular sites without agreeing a price for that work. After the predictable breakdown of the contract Time Talk reviewed the work of Barnes and found that a project manager retained and paid by Time Talk was also receiving payment from Barnes.
