RICS has entered into a formal agreement with the Australian Property Institute (API), Australia's premier body for property professionals. The agreement, signed in Sydney on 27 May 2003, pledges both bodies to develop closer co-operation, which could lead in time to full merger. The move reflects the increasingly international pattern of property markets with extensive inward investment in Australian commercial property and active participation by Australian funds in Asia and Europe.
