64% of new dwellings including conversions were built on previously-developed land in 2002 in England according to a provisional estimate just released in "Land use change in England: residential development to 2002". This exceeds the government's 2008 national target of 60% and improves on 63% in 2001 and 61% in 2000. Other 2002 key figures include an average density of 27 new dwellings built per hectare and 56% of land changing to residential use was previously-developed.
